Alan and Greg were visiting Los Angeles in January 2005, so I flew over to spend the weekend with them. It was also an opportunity to meet up with my friend Richard, whom I hadn't seen since I left Sun.

On the Sunday we went to the Getty Center. It was one of those places I had always been meaning to see, but never got around to. Sometimes it takes a visitor from overseas to provide that extra impetus.

I gave up trying to take photgraphs of the art works inside the buildings after a couple of attempts. Flash photography is not allowed, and the long exposure times meant the images were subject to a lot of camera shake. But the opportunities for photography outside more than made up for the problems inside - the buildings themselves and the views over the city and the ocean made for some great shots.

On the last day we drove over one of the canyon roads behind Malibu - it's all surprisingly wild up there considering how close it is to the city. Unfortunately, it's all rather hard to capture on camera, so the photographs don't do it justice.
