A goanna (probably varanus varius), seen at West Head in Ku-Ring-Gai Chase (just to the north of Sydney). You don’t get much idea of the scale from the picture, but it must have been about 60cm from nose to tail.

A kookaburra (dacelo novaeguineae) on the building opposite my flat. You will find much better photographs of this species elsewhere on the web, but this was the first time I had ever seen a kookaburra from my flat, so I was determined to get a shot.

A bulbul (more precisely, a red-whiskered bulbul, pycnonotus jocosus) on the bamboo outside my flat.
